A 1920s house that finally stopped baking

Claire's 1920s Altadena house has almost no insulation. The back den was converted from a covered porch and, in her words, is "literally some wood with tar sheets on top." She had already tried a white cooling paint and reflective aluminum netting for shade, and the best she could get was a ceiling running 5°F to 10°F above outdoor air temperature with the air conditioning going full blast. She bought a quart of CryoPaint, coated a 5.5 foot square of the roof, then pointed a thermal camera at the ceiling from inside the house. The painted section reads 86.3°F while the untreated ceiling beside it climbs past 100°F in the same frame. She ordered a 5 gallon pail the same day to do the entire back section. As she put it, it is "a whole lot cheaper than replacing the roof."

Electricity from a cold night sky

Yauheni, an energy-harvesting enthusiast in Mannheim, Germany, set out to answer a question most people only theorize about: can radiative cooling alone make electricity? He coated his homemade thermoelectric-generator (TEG) panel with CryoPaint, pointed it at the open sky, and let the temperature difference between the cooled surface and the surrounding air do the work. Over two clear days and nights he measured continuous output - roughly 0.1 mW from a small 0.125 m² panel - enough to keep a red LED blinking around the clock with no battery, just long-life ceramic capacitors. His takeaway: radiative cooling can generate power "anywhere you have access to the sky, day or night."

"Learned about Cryo X from a big influencer on Youtube. I INSTANTLY ordered it. Of course Cryo ended up SWAMPED due to the size of the influencer and I had to wait an extra week. But the company was cordial and did all they could to soften the blow of waiting. It was worth the wait!!! I have a 20x16 tin roof covering a fish tank and wanted to slow down the heating due to radiation. I painted a 10x10 patch of the tin directly over the fish tank. The next day, I noticed that you could TOUCH the tin in the middle of the day and i was only warm. When I moved to the unpainted tin it would burn your fingers. VERY GOOD. I believe my fish tank warming has slowed. I'm fairly sure there are TWO forms of heating prevented/slowed down: 1) The radiation that you "feel" regardless of ambient temperature - that is remarkably less and 2) the radiated heat (not radiation though) of the HOT tin panel radiating *AND* heating the ambient temperature below the tin. It really has turned our fish tank area into a wonderful cool area to sit and enjoy. We sit and feed our blue cats all the time! I love the product and will finish the roof soon. My next project will be painting my outdoor "ranch jackery-ish" solar systems for telementry."

"This stuff is really amazing. I don’t understand how it actually feels cooler to the touch than the surrounding temps. Science. I will definitely be applying this to other projects soon. The auto test seems to be holding up well this season and the dune buggy and trailer and RV are all being considered. Great potentially energy saving product in this desert environment. I’m getting very curious as to what it can do for the airconditioning energy use. Probably do at least partial trailer next Spring and can begin comparing summer savings."

"I tested the paint on a ceramic tile. The effect is astonishing. The surface temperature stayed close to the ambiet temperature and 15-20°C below the reference temperature of an unpainted ceramic tile (clear sky). In the teststand the backside of the ceramic tile is isolated with 6cm PIR-insulation. The backside temperature of the tile was measured with PT1000 sensors and a putty with high heat transfer."

"Stunning results. CryoX advertises 15 degrees. I saw over 30 and have youtube videos that show it. Even more of a delta after 2nd coat. Crazy results, 30 degrees. I just did a 3x3 with the small bottle. A gallon is en route right now and I am excited to see what it does to the inside of the RV with those results on the roof."
